2 moms in Alamo case fear for kids

Arkansas Democrat-Gazette/STATON BREIDENTHAL Antavia Meggs (foreground) has not seen three of her children since the Tony Alamo Christian Ministries was raided in September. She left the children in care of a church member and his wife who disappeared.
When the Tony Alamo Christian Ministries compound in southwest Arkansas was raided in September, an Oklahoma woman who once belonged to the group called everyone she could think of, hoping she might be closer to finding the four children she says her husband ran off with in 2004.

LITTLE ROCK—A lawyer who filed a civil lawsuit against Tony Alamo has 90 days to track down the man who reportedly served as the jailed evangelist’s enforcer, even though the man being sought has successfully eluded arrest on state and federal warrants for months.

Teens given longer time to serve suit
A judge’s ruling Wednesday gives two teenagers an extra three months to find the man they say beat them while they were members of the Tony Alamo Christian Ministries and serve him with a copy of their lawsuit.
But the teenagers’ attorney, W. David Carter of Texarkana, Texas, said he doesn’t expect to wait that long to move forward with the lawsuit, which seeks damages against the ministry’s leader, Tony Alamo, and John Kolbeck, whom authorities have identified as Alamo’s “enforcer.”

Alamo changes defense attorneys
Defense attorney Danny Davis became famous for his work in the McMartin Preschool case in Manhattan Beach, Calif., which drew national publicity in the 1980s for its allegations of satanic rituals, secret rooms and mass molestations of children.
Davis is now representing evangelist Tony Alamo, who also faces lurid and widely publicized allegations of abuse. But Davis said he sees few similarities between Alamo’s case and the one against McMartin Preschool worker Raymond Buckey, which ended with prosecutors dropping charges in 1990 and spawned an HBO movie.
