Alamo’s attorney seeks delay in abuse hearing
An attorney for evangelist Tony Alamo on Tuesday requested a delay in his client’s trial, saying he needs more time to investigate the credibility of the girls Alamo is accused of sexually abusing and to examine the locations where the abuse is alleged to have occurred.
“Defense counsel needs a minimum of 120 days before the cause can be tried competently,” defense attorney Danny Davis of Beverly Hills, Calif., wrote. Otherwise, he wrote, the trial “would not be a competent confrontation in our adversarial system, but a stumbling, ad hoc discovery proceeding, where defense counsel learns glimpses of the evidence during the prosecution’s case and makes the best record of constitutional defects that it can.”

Prosecutors object to Alamo trial delay
Prosecutors Wednesday asked a federal judge to reject a request to delay evangelist Tony Alamo’s May 18 trial, saying court officials have already summoned more than 240 potential jurors to report for duty and have issued subpoenas to dozens of witnesses across the country.
Responding to the request for a postponement by Alamo’s defense attorneys, prosecutors also asked U.S. District Judge Harry F. Barnes to declare that case has “special importance” and should be expedited under a federal law designed to minimize stress on child victims.

Alamo follower in N.J. regains custody of son, attorney says
An 11-year-old boy who spent five months in foster care will return home to his father, a member of the Tony Alamo Christian Ministries who lives in New Jersey, after a judge found no evidence the boy had been abused or neglected, the father’s attorney said Wednesday.
