Appeal Planned by Parents Cut Off From Children
An advocate for members of the Tony Alamo Christian Ministries whose parental rights were terminated by a judge says the parents will appeal the ruling.
Cheryl Barnes is a litigation specialist for the parent advocacy group CPS Watch Legal Team, which helped the parents with their cases in Miller County Circuit Court at Texarkana. She said Saturday that, after Alamo was convicted in federal court of child-sex felonies, there was no need to take the kids away from their parents.
Friday’s ruling by Circuit Judge Joe Griffin affects seven parents of children seized from Alamo ministries. The judge said the case of an eighth parent – wife of a man among the seven whose parental rights were terminated – will be reconsidered in six months. Read the rest of this article »
