Lawyers meet to prepare for Alamo trial
Prosecutors and defense lawyers will meet with a federal judge to discuss the upcoming trial of jailed evangelist Tony Alamo.
The lawyers will meet Friday morning in the chambers of Judge Harry F. Barnes. Defense lawyers for Alamo filed a set of motions requesting words like “polygamy,” “cult” and “compound” not be used at his upcoming trial, scheduled to begin Monday.
The 74-year-old faces a 10-count federal indictment accusing him of taking young girls across state lines for sex. Authorities plan to beef up security at the Texarkana federal courthouse for Alamo’s trial.
