Alamo trial starts in Texarkana

A federal judge began questioning prospective jurors Monday morning on the first day of jailed evangelist Tony Alamo’s trial on charges that he took young girls across state lines for sex.

U.S. District Judge Harry F. Barnes is questioning the members of a 240-person jury pool about their schedules and other matters. Later in the day, the judge is expected to outline his recent rulings on evidence admissibility.

Alamo, 74, has pleaded not guilty to the charges. The trial is expected to last two weeks.
