Testimony begins in Alamo Trial
Before the noon recess in Tony Alamo’s criminal trial on Wednesday, one of the five women named in a 10-count federal indictment testified that she agreed to marry Tony Alamo when she was 14 because she didn’t want her pregnant mother and family to be kicked out with no place to go.
Alamo was 59 at the time.
The witness, now 30, testified about numerous trips she took with Alamo across state lines and said they were not for church business.
The witness also spoke of hearing Alamo describe fondling an 8-year-old girl he took as a wife.
Despite numerous objections from the defense, the witness described a plural marriage situation with a schedule for sleeping with Alamo.
Testimony will continue this afternoon.
If convicted of bringing young girls across state lines for sex, the 74 year old could spend the rest of his life in federal prison.
