Defense Rests At Sex-crimes Trial Of Evangelist
Lawyers for evangelist Tony Alamo have succeeded in their attempt to keep the minister off the stand at his federal sex-crimes trial.
Alamo had said he wanted to testify despite his lawyers’ recommendations against it. When his trial resumed after an hours-long break Wednesday, Alamo’s defense team said it had completed presenting evidence. Alamo did not take the stand.
Prosecutors have the option to call rebuttal witnesses.
Alamo pleaded not guilty to a 10-count indictment alleging he took five young girls across state lines for sex. The jury could get the case later Wednesday.
Testimony included stories from young women who said they “married” Alamo as teen and pre-teen girls.
