Man Arrested On Alamo Property Sentenced

A sex offender arrested at a Tony Alamo Christian Ministries property earlier this year was sentenced to two years in federal prison this week after earlier pleading guilty to failure to register as a sex offender after traveling across state lines.

Jonathan Patrick Curry, 39, pleaded guilty in May and appeared before U.S. District Judge Robert T. Dawson on Monday for sentencing. He will also be subject to several restrictions upon his release from prison.

Curry was released from a Nevada prison in November 2007 after serving more than five years on a conviction for attempted lewdness with a child younger than 14, which required him to register as a sex offender for life, according to an affidavit filed with the criminal complaint against Curry.

An arrest warrant was issued for Curry in Nevada in June 2008 after it was determined that he failed to register as a sex offender after being released from prison.

In late November, an FBI agent located Curry at a property owned by Alamo Ministries where Curry told the agent he resided, and the agent saw a sign on a room that said, “Keep out of John Curry’s Rm,” according to the affidavit.

Although the address of the property was redacted from the affidavit, federal officials have confirmed it was an Alamo property.

Curry initially pleaded not guilty to the charge, but changed his plea to guilty in a hearing before Dawson in May.

In addition to the prison sentence, Curry will be under lifetime supervised release after serving his prison term, is prohibited from possessing any form of pornography, prohibited from any unsupervised contact with minors, prohibited from possessing or accessing any computer or computer enabled equipment, and required to submit to any psychological testing/counseling/treatment ordered by his probation officer and submit to any means to track his location at any time.

He was also ordered to pay a $1,000 fine.
