Alamo defense plans to call up to 10 witnesses

A lawyer for evangelist Tony Alamo says as many as 10 defense witnesses could be called as the minister fights sex-crime charges in a federal courtroom.

Lawyer Phillip Kuhn says he is recommending that Alamo not take the stand, but says no decision has been reached.

Alamo is named in a 10-count indictment alleging violations of the Mann Act. Kuhn says the defense team will try to undermine government claims that Alamo intentionally took the girls across state lines for sex.

The minister seemed agitated as the trial entered its second week and at times blurted out things. Kuhn said Judge Harry Barnes noticed and has asked Alamo to “cool it.”

Prosecutors are expected to wrap up their case Tuesday.
