LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Storied football coach Frank Broyles, international entertainer Glen Campbell and disgraced evangelist Tony Alamo were among the noted and notorious Arkansans who died in 2017. Two stars of the small screen died, too, five decades after entertaining Arkansas children with their local television shows.

Patriarch Spanks Wife & Gets Jail Time: Physical Violence is Always Unacceptable!
This Monday and Tuesday on the Dr. Phil show there was featured a man (Kirby ) that is a Fundamentalist Christian Patriarch type who’d spanked his wife Renee with a paddle for not calling him “Sir”. What he didn’t know was that his wife had videoed him disciplining her and eventually went to law enforcement with that video and others showing him physically disciplining their sons. He was arrested and now the wife has a no contact order against him.

The Religious Sex Abuse Epidemic
The public reaction to the sex abuse scandals that have rocked the Vatican and Roman Catholic churches worldwide is causing rank-and-file Catholics to leave the church in droves. But concerned parents need to be wary about more than just the Catholic brand of clergy. The public rightly became disenchanted with an institution that claims moral authority while acting like those who it would condemn for their immoral behaviors.

Tony Alamo’s cult remains active in Santa Clarita and abroad
Tony Alamo, a local “evangelist”, was sentenced to 175 years in prison during July of 2009. His history in Santa Clarita extends over 40 years. In spite of his incarceration, this past weekend a flyer for his Tony Alamo Christian Ministries was placed on the windshield of my car. Heads up parents, his easiest converts are teenagers.

Religious zealots should not be allowed to indoctrinate from jail
Religious propaganda inundates us daily, even in the most unlikely of places. Say that you just got done working out with your friend at the gym and you are walking to your car, when on your windshield you see what can’t be anything but a brochure inviting you to find Jesus and take him into your heart, from your friend Tony Alamo.

Who’s calling who an evangelist?
So what do you think of when you hear or read the word “evangelist”? Perhaps it would be better to frame the question this way: “Who do you think of when hear or read the word ‘evangelist’?”

Preacher Tony Alamo Convicted on Child-Sex Charges; Faces 175 Years
Last year the Voice did a big report on Tony Alamo and his bizarre Christian child-bride cult. New Yorkers of a certain vintage may recall being handed one of Alamo’s insane pamphlets in the subways, where his minions sometimes proselytized. We found Alamo and his Tony Alamo Christian Ministries running charity scams, but it was his polygamous attachment to pre-teens that interested many people — including law enforcement officers.

Column – Greg Sagan: This preacher tests me to the max

Arkansas Blog: Waiting for Alamo verdict
The jury instructions seem critical in the jury’s deliberation of sex crime charges against cult leader Tony Alamo, charged with multiple sexual encounters with children. Was sex the dominant reason he took the minors across a state line, as the law requires for conviction? (The definition of dominant is critical. Was there any reason other than sex that he had his child “wives” along for his journeys?)

At Evangelist’s Trial, Horrific Tales of Sexual Abuse of Young Girls
If you grew up in Arkansas, as I did, you are familiar with the crazed preaching of an evangelist named Tony Alamo. His fliers denouncing the Vatican and the “one world” government were everywhere – left on your car windshields, sometimes even mailed to your home. They were many pages of type, single spaced. He lived in a compound in Fouke, Arkansas, with a swimming pool, and there were reports of polygamy and sex with young girls going back to at least the mid-1990s.tony-alamo

The statement below has been copied from the blog FLDS TEXAS.
Discussion: Tony Alamo/FLDS Compared
As many of you know Tony Alamo is going to trial on federal Mann Act charges based on facts identical to events that took place within the FLDS — namely, moving underage girls across state lines to be illegally married to and sexually assaulted by a polygamous cult prophet. The raid of Tony Alamo’s compound took place in September of last year. He faces 10 federal charges related to the underage marriages and sexual assaults of children.
