Prosecutors Refuse Pretrial Requests by Tony Alamo
Federal prosecutors are refusing a request by jailed evangelist Tony Alamo to provide mental health and hospital records for witnesses in his upcoming child-sex trial.
In a filing Monday in U.S. District Court, prosecutors said they didn’t have any mental-health records and said such records are considered confidential. Prosecutors also acknowledged in the filing that every call Alamo placed from jail since October has been taped and his conversations with female visitors were videotaped.
The 74-year-old evangelist faces a July 13 trial on a 10-count indictment accusing him of taking young girls across state lines for sex. Alamo has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
