Moffett man critically injured

A Moffett man was seriously injured Sunday night when struck by a car as he attempted to direct traffic for a moving van, police said.

Al Cummins, 44, suffered massive head injuries when he was struck by a car in the 800 block of North Sixth Street about 6:15 p.m.

Cummins was listed in critical condition at Sparks Regional Medical Center late Sunday night,
He reportedly stepped in front of a 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera driven by Curtis Ply-male of Fort Smith, Fort Smith patrol officer Dawn Sprayberry said.

Plymale was northbound on North Sixth Street when Cummins attempted to flag down Plymale’s car, witnesses told police. Cummins was helping a friend direct the moving van into a parking space when the accident occurred.

He wasn’t carrying a flashlight or wearing reflective clothing, Sprayberry said.

The force of the accident caved in the driver’s side of the Oldsmobile’s windshield. Plymale wasn’t injured in the accident.
