Appeal Planned by Parents Cut Off From Children

An advocate for members of the Tony Alamo Christian Ministries whose parental rights were terminated by a judge says the parents will appeal the ruling.

Cheryl Barnes is a litigation specialist for the parent advocacy group CPS Watch Legal Team, which helped the parents with their cases in Miller County Circuit Court at Texarkana. She said Saturday that, after Alamo was convicted in federal court of child-sex felonies, there was no need to take the kids away from their parents.

Friday’s ruling by Circuit Judge Joe Griffin affects seven parents of children seized from Alamo ministries. The judge said the case of an eighth parent – wife of a man among the seven whose parental rights were terminated – will be reconsidered in six months.

  1. PACA Says:

Cheryl Barnes needs to take her blinders off. Just how much research has she really done on the Alamo group?
Does she even know of the times children have been taken and hid from their relatives and society? Some for 7 yrs, 10yrs.? The charges of kidnapping? How bout the church harboring a murder and a sex offender? Parents knew of these things. Alamo didn’t do it all by himself. Does Cheryl know anything other than what she’s being told and reading a few news articles?
You can’t always trust that a relative would be a better place for the kids. That is rare. There has only been one case so far that the judge knew the relative was fit to raise the kids better than their own parents. Those children got lucky.
