Hearing set over 1988 abuse case involving Alamo
LOS ANGELES—Officials say a follower of jailed Arkansas evangelist Tony Alamo will have a preliminary hearing March 27 over charges stemming from the 1988 beating of an 11-year-old boy.
Douglas Christopher, 55, faces a felony count of child abuse and one felony count of corporal injury to a child over the beating that took place at a ministry compound north of Los Angeles. The boy later testified that Alamo ordered the beating over a speakerphone.
Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office, says Christopher’s real name is Allen Matthew Rehn. He remains held at the Los Angeles County jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.
Alamo, 74, is being held in Arkansas pending a May federal trial on charges he took young girls across state lines for sex.
