Alamo lawyers ask bond to be set
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) – Lawyers for jailed evangelist Tony Alamo have asked a federal judge to release the minister pending his trial on charges he took young girls across state lines for sex.
In a 22-page filing to U.S. District Judge Harry F. Barnes, lawyers ask that bond be set for the 74-year-old. Alamo has been held without bond since his arrest Sept. 25 in Flagstaff, Ariz. Lawyers say prosecutors and witnesses have offered no evidence that Alamo took the young girls across state lines for sex.
Alamo went underground as he faced felony child abuse charges in California. Federal agents arrested Alamo in Tampa, Fla., after two years on the run.
